I dont think anyone should say which sport takes more skill unless they have played both. They are both completly different games aswell. BTW i follow the AFL

Ye i've watched heaps of AFL games to be honest. and ye reading the plays does know the strategy. you noe what they are exactly doing. if they go short pass, 1st reviever a forward, hit-up that means that they not in desperation and very calm. if they keep putting in chips, grubbers in goals that means they want the game to be calm but they also need the ball to get more possession. it takes long to understand but trust me NRL takes way way way more skill

There is more the just kicking and handballing to AFL. Tactics apply just the same as any sport. You need to be able to read the play and run your gameplan effectively. Switching, Creating run and defensive pressure are all required rather than just finding a target to kick to.

Mate seriously i don't see why AFL takes skills, all you gotta know is how to catch, handball and kick that's all! All you gotta look for is your man to handball or kick and get an accurate kick, or shoot for goal etc. NRL you need to read plays, know the stretegy, read the defence, be fast, athletic, strong hands, be a strong tackler, runner, creative halfback, responsible for plays etc etc.! i'm telling you right now NRL takes heaps of skills possibly 2nd sport after soccer.

As an AFL fan personally I think it takes more skill to play than playing league does. I do like NRL though and think that the NRL Footy Show is a funny show.
